Vastarian: Church Raid

The Cult of the Lantern (created by rojasnoirlac) has made its way to Ravachol, Vastarian.

Recently, when Bill Ford was in Maryland for a work trip, we had the good fortune of meeting up with him and Dave Taylor! Not wanting to miss the opportunity to roll some dice, we were able to set up Bill’s Chapel board and play a game within our Vastarian setting! Below are some photos from the game with a loose narrative conveyed in the captions.

Bill Ford's warband of the Reverent House of St Nirvath, led by a The Traveler, a xenos of the Nicassar species.

Ligeia Orr, Prophet of the Crimson Veil, Dreamer of the Apocalypse congregates in a small chapel in Saint-Fauré, a district of Ravachol, preparing to make a final approach to the hyperradiant lighthouse and prevent it from being activated as astropathic beacon.

Unbeknownst to the Red Church, the Cult of the Lantern (created by rojasnoirlac) are at the door, intent on raiding the house of worship for any hallowed relics that may assist with activating the astropathic beacon.

A crimson clad devotee of the Cult of the Lantern opens a side door of the chapel to find another entrance, chainblade at the ready with Saint Hildegard Mechthild at their back.

But the Cult of the Lantern is not the only rival faction intent on racing the chapel, as a Srakchi zealot of the Reverent House of St Nirvath kicks open the doors and stalks into the nave of the chapel, crimson cloak billowing behind them.

Devotees of the Cult of the Lantern flood into the small chapel, ready to spill blood in the Emperor’s name and get one step closer to activating the beacon.

One of the Lantern cultists brings a keening chain blade down on Alexsei Tsybovsky.

In a fit of indignant rage, Case, an Ogryn-turned-faithful by Cardinal Ladorak of the Reverent House of St Nirvath, brings its mace down in a radiant arc, crushing Kasia Polus to the cold flagstones.

The Traveller, an itinerant Nicassar and recent convert to the Reverent House of St Nirvath, recognized the presence of an fledgling psyker as soon as they floated into the chapel, the unfettered warp energy emanating from a skeletal being in the cavernous hall, veiled in a deep vermilion. They astrally project their form across the house of worship, a magnificent spacefaring yacht, bristling with minarets and weapons platforms. A blood-red formless thing writhes out of the veiled psyker of the Church of the Red Athenæum. In an instant, the crawling shape encircles the Traveller’s ectoplasmic form, and in a flash of needle-like fangs, the xenos psyker retreats into its mind, blacking out in a schism of unbridled pain.

Glut on the warp energy siphoned off the dying Nicassar, Ligeia’s writhing persona swells, its vermin fangs chattering—an unsettling resonant sound that manifested in the minds of all those present in the small chapel in Saint-Fauré. The bloody and serpentine form twitches violently as it fixes on a psychic spore that just entered the nave, the measured light of Hildegard Mechthild, Saint of the Cult of the Lantern. In an instant Ligeia’s ghastly form surrounds Mechthid’s psychic radiance and constricts. A violent struggle soon ends as the light gutters out and the Saint of the Cult of the Lantern slumps to the ground.

With the chapel in ruins, a pair of zealots, enraged at the loss of their patron saint, surround Ligeia as she unhinges the fabric of reality around her and translocates elsewhere in a mist of blood.

Lazlo, Secretariat of his Eminence of the Reverent House of St Nirvath, stumbles from the chapel bloodied but triumphant, an eldritch jade relic in hand.
