Cartography of Suffering. |
Mordheim has always been a game that is easy to come back to. For some time now, I have been interested in trying my hand at building a new warband with a slightly different focus from my normal realistic approach. Instead of heavily converting models I want to focus on using Oldhammer models. The warband I am interested in is the Chaos Dwarves, though not necessarily the big hatted ones. I set my sights on the old Marauder Chaos Dwarf line sculpted by Aly Morrison. Through some eBay searching I was able to acquire three. Each one wears armor with a more sinister and brutalist look than the big hats popularized by the Games Workshop Chaos dwarves.

The Marauder Chaos Dwarves wear armor much more akin to that seen on Chaos warriors from the Games Workshop range. |

Two of the models are sculpted to hold shields, providing a fun opportunity to sculpt a few of my own unique shields. Currently I have only sculpted one inspired by some of Wayne England’s artwork. I plan to sculpt a second in the future. |

Eric was able to make a mold for the shield I sculpted, allowing me to use a resin cast of the shield on the model. |

I pinned each of the models to scenic bases taken from the Exiled Dead warband from Warhammer Underworlds. I needed to do a little sculpting to ensure they stood flat on the bases. |

As was the trend for many older sculpts (particularly for dwarves), all of the models have massively oversized feet. |

In addition to the oversized feet, the dwarves also carry around weapons nearly as large as they are. They truly are a strong and hardy bunch of warriors! |
Moving forward I will need to acquire a few more models to make a Mordheim warband. Fortunately, I will not need too many due to the high cost of the Chaos Dwarves and their tendency to be heavily armored (which costs a premium in game terms). The original Marauder line of Chaos Dwarves was pretty large (~24 different sculpts) so I have a bunch of models to choose from.
