Vastarian: the Aeris Sanctus saint

After long breathless hours, the spiritual leaders of the Aeris Sanctus reached a conclusion for the Ravachol conundrum: while it is a noble goal to strip Vastarian of the psykic pall engulfing it, such a task is not for fallible mortals; it is a task for the omniscient Emperor. Taking matters into their own hands will only cause more ruin. What is needed is faith, faith that He will intervene as breath draws short.

"O Emperor, whose breath fills the void,

In the thin air of Vastarian, we stand before thee,

Each breath a testament to our faith, each gasp a hymn of devotion.

Grant us strength amidst the winds,

As we face the trials of this smothering world.

May every breath be a communion with thy divine essence,

A reminder of thy eternal presence in the air we breathe.

Guide us, O Emperor, through the turbulent currents of fate,

As we journey to the high-altitude shrines, seeking thy favor.

In the relentless winds, we find thy whispers,

In the scarce air, we find thy challenge.

Bless us with thy grace, O Emperor, as we endure,

For in the struggle for each breath, we find our purpose,

And in our unwavering faith, we find salvation.

In nomine Imperator, amen."

This saint was converted with a variety of models including the legs from an Alarith Stonemage from Age of Sigmar, the body from the scribe from the Inquisitorial Agents Kill Team, and the head from Pious Vorne from the Blackstone Fortress board game.

It has been a few months since we revealed the winners of our Vastarian contest to create a cult for the Inq28 setting. If you haven’t seen all of the amazing entries, you can find them here: Entries 1, 2, 3, 4. First place went to Jean-François (trexcowboy_) for his cult, the Aeris Sanctus, which celebrates the simple act of breathing and believes that the struggle to respire, even in oxygen low environments, imparts a spiritual connection to the Emperor. The prize for first place was that Adam would convert a model for their cult. This conversion process has been extensive and hinted at on a post earlier this year where a grotesque tree was sculpted for the conversion. We are excited to finally reveal the final model, a beatific saint!

The tree was made to emulate the imagery of John Blanche.

To make the Saint appear to be floating I wrapped two wires around the trunk of the tree and attached them to the back of the model.

The staff of the Saint was converted to have an anemometer at the top. I also used foil from a wine bottle to create a parchment to wrap around the staff.

I added a series of bionic arms to the armored carapace on the model, including a searchlight and a quilled feather pen.

The majority of the sculpting was done with Tamiya Quick Type putty. It is a little stickier than standard greenstuff, but handles similarly and can be sanded after curing.
