The first generation of ratling snipers are still my favorite, and it was great to repaint one! |
I am happy to say I was able to find time to paint a model for chilvers_industries annual Olden Demon painting contest! It asks contestants to paint an old Games Workshop model, celebrating the wonky models from the 80’s and 90’s, complete with a Goblin Green base, a hallmark of the ‘Eavy Metal team at the time. While last year I painted an ancient Warhammer knight, this year I decided to paint a Warhammer 40k model, specifically an original Ratling sniper model, which was actually the first model I ever got in my teen-aged years! After converting the model a small amount, it was great to paint the model and compare it to the other two from the original trio of Ratling models. I have come a long way from those early days in the hobby!

I am surprised how much a new paint job improves this old model! |
 |
I spent a lot of time working on the model’s skin, trying to make it worn looking, with faded scars. |
 |
The green base brings back memories from the 90s. |
 |
The model has a ton of little pouches and even a dagger! |
 |
This trio of Ratling Snipers were the first Games Workshop miniatures we ever purchased (and some of the first models we ever painted too)! |

Well that certainly is a glow up... although I do like the original colors too, red gun casings are what my brain expects for 40k (never liked the goblin green bases though).
ReplyDeleteRed gun casings certainly is a hallmark of 2nd edition Warhammer 40k. Maybe I will have to paint a model like that in the future. I am planning to rebase this model and give them a more modern base.
DeleteBrilliant paint job and I agree--these are very cool models!
ReplyDeleteIt was great revisiting the model and spending more time considering all of the details. I am tempted to convert and paint another...
