Dragged into Turbolasers Episode 91: Mental health and miniature wargaming

Gretchin, better known as Greenstuff Gretchin, joins us to speak about the incredibly important topic of mental health. Mental health is something that affects everyone, but is not often discussed openly, despite how it can envelope our lives. In the episode, we talk about how mental health impacts everyones’ personal hobby journeys, both positively and negatively. We touch on how it can be difficult to acknowledge if you are struggling and to find the appropriate help, and how support can sometimes be lacking or out of reach when you do seek it. Finally, we talk about how supportive the hobby community is, and encourage people to reach out to ourselves and others if they need support.

A look back: Notable Hobbyists of 2021

Shortly after the turn of the new year, we reflected back on all we accomplished in 2021. Having finished this, we turned our attention to the more exciting topic of considering what hobbyists and artists inspired us most throughout 2021. Like in past years, there were an astounding amount of hobbyists producing fantastic work, which made it difficult to acknowledge everyone we wanted to. Furthermore, we purposely did not choose hobbyists that we featured in previous years, although many of them are still creating incredible work, so we would encourage people to look back on our selections from previous years!

The Ghosts of Yellowfield House: Deirdre

If you have ghosts, then you have everything.

While the world of miniature gaming is filled with interesting offerings, after being immersed in it, much of it starts to look sameish (lots of grimacing space soldiers and rough and tumble orcs). As such, it is always exciting to find something that breaks the mold. The recent sculpting output of Andrew Rae of Statuesque Miniatures is a good example of creating unique work in a saturated market. Premiered through Kickstarter, he started a series of miniatures representing an eclectic group of lost and abandoned toys with Left at the Bottom of the Garden. Following a similar whimsical style, he sculpted a set of ghosts featured in a third Kickstarter, the Ghosts of Yellowfield House. Each has a simple, yet evocative design that can be painted quickly. With this in mind, I decided to start off my 2022 hobby efforts by painting the candle holding Deirdre!

28 Volume 4 is out!

Volume 4!

I am excited to say that the fourth volume of the Inq28/AoS28 magazine 28 is out and free for download! It has been a long time in the making, collecting and editing articles, but it was worth the wait! Like the previous issues, it is filled with all sorts of exciting articles covering topics like terrain building, painting, photography, and converting models. While my brothers and I did not directly write an article in the new issue, we were responsible for curating questions and contacting the creators of MÖRK BORG for the interview within the new issue. So if you haven't already, go download the new volume!

Between the Bolter and Me: 2021, a year in review

The Church of the Red Athenaeum 2016-2021.

Despite the pandemic still making life difficult, and dramatically restricting the possibility of travel in 2021, we had a productive year as a blog. While maintaining our monthly posting schedule, we continued to do our weekly Twitch streams and monthly (mostly) podcast Dragged into Turbolasers. With this post, we wanted to recap the year as a whole, starting by examining the 3 most popular posts on each of our various platforms (blogger, Instagram, and our podcast).
