The crime is life, the sentence is death. |
Late last month, we began our Ossiarch Bonereaper Challenge, encouraging anyone interested to try to convert an Eldar model using pieces from the Age of Sigmar Ossiarch Bonereaper model line. There has already been a great response to the challenge, with a bevy of atmospheric models. We will be featuring pictures of these on our blog shortly, but in the meantime, you can follow peoples’ work with #bonereaperchallenge on Instagram. In this post, we wanted to show the completed conversion for our entry in the challenge, a macabre fusion of many different aspects of Eldar imagery.
I combined visual elements from all of the different Eldar model ranges to make the viewer question the origins of this Eldar warrior. |
I took special efforts to re-design smaller variants of common Eldar weaponry, namely a shuriken pistol and a power axe. |
While the model has the same basic form and image from the last post, a lot was done to fine tune and improve the model. I added a host of small details, like sculpting more of the spinal column on his back, and adding pouches and a holster designed to fit his shuriken pistol. More substantially, I extended his thighs, adding some much needed height to the model, accentuating his thin, wispy look. His feet were cut down and modified to look segmented, rather than like bone. I did extensive sculpting work to modify his trailing sleeves, adding additional folds and changing the direction to better reflect the motion of the model. I also added a few details to his axe, such as small cables, making it look more like a power axe.
The sleeves are extensively re-sculpted to add wrinkles. Additionally, a loop for holding his axe was sculpted on the right side of his hip. |
After all of the modifications I made on the Eldar, it is roughly on scale with a Primaris Space Marine. |
The scale of Games Workshop miniatures is really all over the place. Standard Space Marines now look out of place in nearly all contexts. |
Although this model took a lot longer to create than I had anticipated, I am pleased with how it turned out, and think it was time well spent. With that said, I am pretty excited to be finished with the conversion! Now I need to determine how best to paint the model. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Brilliant. Completely unique yet also instantly recognisable as an eldar.
ReplyDeleteAs for painting, assuming you don't want to go for one of the Rogue Trader camo schemes (eg, purple and yellow) I suggest black and bone, like the incubi or dark reapers, with some bright spot colours for the visor and gems, etc. Looking forward to seeing it painted.
Thanks for the kind words!
DeleteI have just started the painting process. :)
Lovely sculpting! The folds in the sleeves are top!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The sleeves changed around a bunch during the conversion process, but I am happy with how they ended up.
