With the Mordheim 2019 event less than two months away, I have been busy finishing the last members for my Sister of Sigmar warband. The last major character required is the warband’s leader, the Matriarch.
Forge World’s Sister of Silence, Jenetia Krole, provided a great foundation for the conversion. |
I based the model off of Forge World’s Sister of Silence, Jenetia Krole. The model provided the perfect foundation for a character in full plate mail. I resculpted the majority of the model’s torso to more closely resemble the domed armor seen in Medieval plate mail. Next, I reworked the shin armor and resculpted her feet to remove the armored heels. I replaced her arms with plastic ones from the Sisters of Silence and converted two Sigmarite warhammers for her. I felt that I needed to take advantage of the fact that the Matriarch is only member of the warband that can take two Sigmarite warhammers. I replaced the model’s head with a plastic head from the Stormcast Sequitors that I removed the hair from. After removing the hair, I needed to resculpt one of her ears and add some wrinkles to her face to show her age. Finally, I added some equipment to her belt, including a dagger and a vial of holy water.
I created both of her warhammers using brass tubing for the hafts and reshaped pieces of plastic for the hammer heads. |
Most of the sculpting work on the model was done with a mix of greenstuff and Apoxie Sculpt. The mixture cures much harder and is amenable to sanding. |
With the matriarch finally complete, all the characters for the Sisters of Sigmar warband are complete! Since the characters are the only ones that can collect wyrdstone at the end of the game and acquire new skills, I wanted to ensure I had as many as possible. Ideally I will build one more sister, but it is not essential, meaning I can start to shift my focus from converting to painting!

This warband looks amazing! Can't wait to see them painted!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am busy painting the warband now and will be sure to post updates here as they come.
DeleteWonderful work.
ReplyDeleteCompletes the whole warband very beautiful!
Thanks for the kind words! I am pleased that they look pretty natural together, an aspect that was only partially planned. :)
DeleteAbsolutely fantastic! Been enjoying seeing them come together on Instagram, really jazzed to see the bigger pics here!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like the bigger pictures! Instagram is certainly lacking in that department...
DeleteThat's an amazing conversion! I really like those small, realistic warhammers on her.
ReplyDeleteIt has been fun converting the warhammers for each of the different sisters. I feel like each time I made them smaller and smaller! :)
DeleteSuperb work. Must agree with Borgnine love the realistic historically sized warhammers.
ReplyDeleteI think the smaller weapons go a long way towards emphasizing the Matriarch herself and making her the focus of your attention (she is the most dangerous weapon!).
DeleteFantastic. Such a great sense of purpose and steady, determined movement. Can't wait to see these all painted.
ReplyDeleteI too can't wait for them to be painted! Time is short and things are getting stressful!
DeleteNothing like a deadline to focus the mind though! ;) good luck.
