Loyalist Primarchs in 40k... |
We begin this episode by talking about some of the new Tzeentch releases before shifting into discussing the third Triumvirate boxed set, including Roboute Guilliman, Cypher, and Grand Master Voldus. We spend a lot of time pondering the egregious anatomical issues of the vast majority of current the Space Marine models, and how they were remedied by Simon Egan with his series of Primarch models. We finish out the episode talking about our current work to build a better proportioned true-scale Space Marine.

Very good podcast! One of the few things I would have to add though is that the sword on the old cypher model is indeed way to small. The Lions blade (If the sword that Cypher carries indeed is the Lions Blade) is supposed to be a twohanded sword (The descriptions make it sound like a classic Zweihander), which would mean that the length of the scabbard, and presumably the broken blade within, is indeed appropriate. If at all, the hilt is too small and bulbous. I will definitely be getting him and converting him up, the pose will definitely need to be changed and the guns replaced. I am still on the fence with the pipes on the backpack and consider replacing it with a stylisized wing akin to the old backpack. And I will be giving him his dark green paintjob back, still wondering why he is in plain old black.
ReplyDeleteThe Grey Knight Grandmaster is just bland and uninspired, but I believe that one could make a fine Inquisitor out of him, or use the torso and a kataphron track unit to make an inquisitorial servitor.
For the Guillaume figure I have one word: Terrain.
Thanks for listening! I look forward to seeing what you do with Cypher; just doing the simple things you are suggesting will make for a much stronger model I believe. I think the whole box will be fine for conversion potential, but the content is not as varied as the other two, so it is somewhat of a letdown.
DeleteGreat podcast! I like the theme as I am no fan of smarines, but if I where to do any I'd go true-/artscale as it makes more sense. Though I hardly see that happening soon as my DW for the Nestorian Infestation fulfilled that need.
ReplyDeleteAs for Robute I think the most interesting aspect isnt the model but the why. Why is he here now and what does it imply. Most importantly, what comes after the dust has settled.
Yeah I think you are right about the most intriguing aspect of all of this is what will come next. How will 40k change as a whole. I wish GW had better writers (or if they used the BL or FW people), but as it stands I think most of the interesting opportunities will be squandered.
DeleteExcellent podcast as always guys. As disappointing as the models are I think the lore to follow this triumvirate will be thoroughly worse. I think Adams current marine is a wonderful step in the right direction as far as correct proportions go and looks better with each new picture I've seen. Hope to throw my hat in the ring soon on some true scale as soon as I can get my shit together and finish my dark heresy group....who I have been absolutely dragging my feet on.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I agree there is little hope for well developed/written background material..
DeleteI look forward to seeing your attempt at a TS marine! We are looking into trying to cast the one Adam is working on. If we can get it worked out, we can send you one to mess around with!
:O That would be wonderful!
DeleteExcellent podcast. I agree this is a weak release. I sort of liked the Cypher model, but you have really made me question that now! Roboute seems really misconceived and in particular I don't like the swirls all over his armour - they look too Chaos Space Marine to me.
ReplyDeleteThe true scale stuff is interesting, but I think it really only works for inq28 etc, but it is interesting to see what you guys are doing with it.
Sorry if we ruined Cypher for you! Although I think with some of the criticism in the back of your mind, if you do get the model you will be able to make a few small modifications, ones that will result in a much better model in the long run.
DeleteI agree the true scale stuff is really only feasible for inq28 like stuff. It is too much work to create an entire army that way.
