The Pilgrym: Congregation Member of the Church of the Red Athenæum

In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide.

In the past few weeks I have been very busy painting many of the models that I have built for the Church of the Red Athenæum.  With all of the painting going on, I have neglected to post any pictures of the first regular congregation member that I built.  I have plans to make a few more, exploring the different holy wounds that Church members inflict upon themselves.

The Pilgrym: Samael Urkston, Lord of Bones Complete!

Pain is an illusion of the senses, despair an illusion of the mind.

Having finished building quite a few members of the Church of the Red Athenæum, I realized that I need to start painting some of them, lest the summer arrive and they are all still grey plastic and green stuff.  Looking over the models that I built, Samael Urkston, the Church’s Chronicler, seemed like a good place to start.  The Wayne England tribute is one of my favorite models that I have ever created, and it seemed a good place to start painting, and experimenting with a suitable color scheme for the Church as a whole.  The model ended up taking quite a long time to paint, but I think the effort was well worth it, both to establish the Church’s image going forward and to honor the irreplaceable Wayne England.

Horus Heresy Betrayal at Calth: Game Impressions

When Games Workshop released The Horus Heresy: Betrayal at Calth last year, there was a lot of excitement surrounding the set.  This was largely because it provided plastic versions of many miniatures that had previously only been available in resin from Forge World.  And this enthusiasm was warranted, since the set is significantly cheaper than buying the resin equivalents and most of the models are superior to the resin versions.  But, we talked about much of this before, discussing the the tactical marines and the terminators in previous blog posts.  Instead, today I wanted to talk about the actual game included in the set.  A longtime friend, and fellow Warhammer 40k player, recently purchased the game, and we played a few of the missions last weekend.  I wanted to let people know what I think of it based on those games.

Kingdom Death: Assembling the Black Knight and Flower Knight

The Forest wants what it wants.

Just as I was coming to terms with (and assemble!) all of the models and rules included with Kingdom Death: Monster, its creator Adam Poots started to ship out the game’s many expansions, each including a new monster along with the cards and rules necessary for using them in your ongoing campaigns!  Honestly, the Kickstarter was so long ago that I had forgotten what expansions that I had selected, but was pleasantly surprised to receive: the Flower Knight, Slenderman, the Dragon King, and the Dung Beetle Knight.  And while I have slowly been filming unboxing videos of each of these expansions, I thought that I would do a post talking about the assembly of the Flower Knight.  And for good measure, since I had been working on it at the time, I will show you the resin Black Knight too!
